In every country, national holidays, as well as those associated with religion, are times of rest, reflection and reverie. Almost all companies and institutions have a break then. The US public holiday calendar is a must for anyone doing business overseas. Find out when the holidays fall in the USA 2025. The following article will help you plan your activities with US partners.

When are public holidays in the US in 2025?

Some holidays in the United States are very important to its citizens. Many people cannot imagine working on the holidays. It is a time for family and loved ones. It is a time for relaxation. It is useful to know the calendar of holidays in the US in order to plan business activities accordingly. Below are the days off in 2025. It is worth bearing in mind that less important holidays are also celebrated - such as St Patrick's Day on 17 March. However, the vast majority of companies and institutions operate normally then. 

New Year's Day - 1 January 2025 (Wednesday)

As in Poland, the first day of the new year is also free from work overseas. The vast majority of American businesses remain closed. In Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Hawaii or Boston - the New Year is greeted pompously throughout the USA.

Martin Luther King Day - 20 January 2025 (Monday)

Martin Luther King Jr is known around the world as a leader in the movement to fight for civil rights and racial equality. In the USA, he lived to see his name day. His commitment to abolishing racial discrimination was recognised by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Martin Luther King died as a result of an attempt on his life - he was shot. His name day was established to highlight how much he contributed to the fight for justice and equality for all citizens - regardless of skin colour. His actions allowed for a great change in the consciousness of many people. 

Presidents' Day - 17 February 2025 (Monday)

17 February is a day filled with ceremonies, parades and various public events for US citizens. It is a time to pay tribute to presidents and to highlight their contributions to national identity and the development of the USA. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln hold a special place in the hearts of Americans. Their actions have made a lasting mark on the history of the United States.

National Remembrance Day - 26 May 2025 (Monday)

Memorial Day, or National Remembrance Day, in the United States always falls on the last Monday of May. Its purpose is to commemorate soldiers who have given their lives serving their country. It originally referred to soldiers killed during the Civil War (1861-1865), but is now a holiday celebrated in memory of all those who died in the service of the USA. On this day, solemn ceremonies are held at military cemeteries. The graves of soldiers are strewn with flowers and the US flag. It is a solemn holiday that means a lot not only to the families of the fallen, but also to all citizens.

Liberation Day - 19 June 2025 (Thursday)

Juneteenth, or Emancipation Day, commemorates the abolition of slavery in Texas. On exactly 19 June 1865, after the end of the Civil War, General Gordon Granger declared in Galveston that all slaves in the state of Texas were officially free. This is an occasion not only to celebrate the demise of slavery, but also to highlight the importance of equality and freedom. Numerous parades and cultural events are held in the United States on this day.

Independence Day - 4 July 2025 (Friday)

Independence Day in the United States falls on the 4th of July - commonly referred to as the 'Fourth of July' or 'Fourth of July'. The date commemorates the day the Declaration of Independence was signed from British rule in 1776. Americans are keen to celebrate the birth of a free nation and democracy. The day is filled with parades, concerts, festivals, fireworks displays, picnics and barbecues.

Labour Day - 1 September 2025 (Monday)

Celebrated on the first Monday in September in the United States is Labour Day. It commemorates the contribution of workers from the labour movement to the development and achievements of the United States and their fight for workers' rights. As in Poland, Labour Day for many people is inextricably linked to relaxation, picnics, gatherings with family and loved ones, as well as festivals and parades.

Columbus Day - 13 October 2025 (Monday)

Columbus Day is a holiday commemorating the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus on 12 October 1492. It always falls on the second Monday of October. It is celebrated on both American continents and in Spain. On this day, Americans take part in numerous parades, festivals and other cultural events. It is a controversial holiday in some circles due to the impact of colonisation on Native Americans.

Veterans Day - 11 November 2025 (Tuesday)

Veterans Day, which falls on 11 November, aims to commemorate veterans who have served in the US armed forces. Established as the anniversary of the Armistice and the end of the First World War. In Poland, we celebrate Independence Day on this day, while in many other countries it is Remembrance Day. It is therefore an internationally significant date for America and Europe. On this day, parades and gratitude ceremonies are held in the United States. Americans thank veterans for their sacrifice and service to the country.

Thanksgiving Day - 27 November 2025 (Thursday)

The establishment of Thanksgiving is credited to President Abraham Lincoln. In 1863, Americans gave thanks for a bountiful harvest and a successful harvest after a harsh winter. To Poles, Thanksgiving Day is primarily associated with a huge roast turkey. Not surprisingly, in the United States this holiday cannot do without a roast turkey. Nowadays, the celebration has a more universal character, referring to gratitude for the good things in life.

Christmas Day - 25 December 2025 (Thursday)

One of the most joyous holidays not only overseas, but also in Poland celebrated on 25 December. Christmas is a Christian holiday, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. Americans love to decorate their homes with lights and dress huge Christmas trees in their living rooms. On the morning of 25 December, it is time to open presents. In the evening, however, a festive dinner takes place. As in Poland, there are some traditional dishes - roast turkey, potato purée and pumpkin pie.

Many public holidays in the United States coincide with those we celebrate in Poland. This is when most companies, institutions and banks are closed. During this time, there may be problems with communication with American partners or delays in banking transactions. No worries - after the celebrations and rest comes the time to work. However, you should take such breaks into account in your business schedule and plan activities and business meetings in advance. Both federal and religious holidays are important to Americans.
