Japan has long been recognised as one of the world's leading economies. With a strong focus on technology, innovation and manufacturing, Japan's economy has consistently demonstrated resilience and growth. The country's gross domestic product (GDP) is among the highest in the world, reflecting the tremendous economic activity and productivity within its borders. Japan's success can be attributed to its highly skilled workforce, efficient infrastructure and strong export-oriented industries. The country is a major player in global trade, with a diverse range of products being exported to markets around the world. As a result, Japan has established itself as a key player in the global economy, driving growth and fostering international business cooperation.

Sea transport from Japan to Poland

The most popular mode of transport from Japan is by sea. All because of the most favourable price and high load capacity. We have the option of shipping full FCL containers: 20DV, 40 DV, 40 HC and smaller LCL general cargo. It is also possible to send small consignments. Then such cargoes are consolidated with several loads and shipped in one container. For sea transport, there are many services and shipowners that sail between Asia and the European Union.

How long does it take to ship from Japan to Poland by sea?

Shipping by sea from Japan takes between 37 and 50 days depending on the service you decide on. Below we insert a picture of several services.

Air transport from Japan to Poland

Air transport from Japan is the fastest method of transporting goods, but also the most expensive. Transport time ranges from 2 to 9 days depending on the service we choose. The cost of transport is calculated in kg, the more kg of cargo we send, the lower the price we can expect.

Air transport rates are calculated per kilogram of cargo. However, there are times when cargo weighs very little and takes up a lot of space by volume. For this reason, airlines have adopted the principle of calculating payable weight and actual weight. If the cargo weighs more than 167 kg per CBM, we calculate from the actual weight, which is how much the cargo actually weighs. However, if, for example, the cargo weighs 100 kg and occupies 1 CBM, the weight will not be calculated from the actual weight, but from the paid weight, i.e. we will pay for 167 kg.

In air transport, the larger the cargo we send, the better the rates we can expect. The rate per kilo of cargo when we ship 1000 kg will be much lower than when we ship 100 kg.

Taxes and customs clearance on imports from Japan

When transporting goods from Japan to the European Union, taxes and customs clearance when importing from Japan are issues that require special attention and must be approached responsibly. When importing goods from Japan, it is important to understand the process of paying taxes and customs clearance procedures. The law is governed by the Free Trade Act between Japan and the European Union.

The first aspect to consider is VAT (value added tax). Imported goods may be subject to VAT, which is calculated on the basis of the value of the goods and the VAT rate applicable in the destination country. It is worth remembering to register as a VAT payer before importing.

Another important element is customs duty. Customs duty is a charge levied by a country for crossing a border and applies to imported goods. The duty rate may vary depending on the type of product and tariff classification. It is necessary to familiarise yourself with the current duty rates applicable to the importation of goods from Japan.

In addition, some products may require special certificates or documentation, such as certificates of origin or phytosanitary certificates. It is important to check which documents are necessary for a particular type of goods and make sure they are available before importing.
